Why Do Golfers Need Short Game Clinics?

Let’s begin by talking about the benefits of taking short game clinics. We will discuss how these group classes are good for golfers of all skill levels because they can help you lower your scores.

Short game clinics are a great resource for golfers that want to increase their skills in the areas of chipping, pitching, and putting the golf ball.

Golf clinics are designed to teach players how to set up and execute various golf shots. Each golf class is tailored to specific topics and will cover all the fundamentals for chipping, putting, and pitching.

What Can You Expect from a Good Golf Clinic?

A typical golf clinic or golf class is designed to be a one-hour session that is led by a golf instructor.

The sessions range in cost depending on where you live and what kind of clinic you’re looking at attending.

They will usually have a price of $15-$30 per session depending on the number of students in the session as well as the teaching experience of the golf coach.

Golf classes for the short game are often divided into four parts:

  1. The golf instructor will start out with a short presentation of the topic. They will relay the concepts as well as the mechanics of hitting the shot.

  2. This is followed by a question-and-answer period. This usually does not las long because the golfers are eager to try out the new information.

  3. Finally, all students will get a station to practice what was discussed in the presentation. The instructor will teach students individually the various techniques for improving their game,

  4. The session usually ends with another question and answer period.

What Other Golfers Are Saying…

How to Choose the Right Golf Clinic For You?

For newer golfers, selecting the best golf clinic for them can be scary and confusing.

Here are some things that you will need to consider:

1. The cost of the class versus the cost of private instruction.

This can be a big factor in your decision.

If you are a newer golfer or even just a casual golfer, a clinic is a cost effective way for you to get better information as well as have someone watch what you are doing.

The average cost of a private golf lesson can be 3 or 4 times the cost of a clinic.

2. How payment for the golf clinic is made.

You will want to know this info before attending the session.

Some teachers receive payment prior to the event while others will allow you to pay at the clinic. Many instructors will accept: cash, credit cards, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal.

3. What is the maximum number of students accepted in each class?

This number will vary. Some classes will be as small as 4 students. On the other end, some coaches run classes with up to 8 students.

If it gets any higher than that, I would be skeptical of how much actual instruction that you are actually going to get. I mean, do the math on 10 students in 60 minutes.

4. Is the learning session targeted towards high handicappers or beginners or is it targeted for better players?

Most clinics are targeted towards the higher handicapper or newer golfer.

However, as long as the agenda has time for individual stations, the coach should be able to work with you at whatever skill level you currently have.

5. Knowing the golf instructor’s background and experience in teaching and coaching,

Look, we all have to start somewhere, even the golf instructor.

Ask if the teacher is a member of the PGA of America or the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). You will also want to ask which certifications they have and how that will benefit you,

If you have questions about the class, I do not know one that would not take the time to answer a few questions over the phone or in person.

If they won’t take the time to do this… then it is time to look for a different coach. Period.
